dc.descriptionWe deduce a set of circularly polarized Gaussian laser beam modes via a separation-of-variables solution to the Helmholtz wave equation in oblate spheriodal coordinates. On transforming to cylindrical coordinates these become the well-known Gaussian-Laguerre modes.
