dc.descriptionHistorically vector-meson physics arose along two different paths to be reviewed in Sections 1 and 2. In Section 3, the phenomenological consequences will be discussed with an emphasis on those aspects of the subject matter relevant in present-day discussions on deep inelastic scattering in the diffraction region of low values of the Bjorken variable.
