dc.descriptionWe contest the interpretation by Gavilano et al. (Phys.Rev.Lett. 90 (2003) 167202) of violation of the Curie law behavior of the paramagnetic susceptibility at low temperatures by means of the quenching of the V4+-ion moment. These results can be understood as caused by well-known conventional phenomena like crystal-field interactions but with taking into account the intra-atomic spin-orbit coupling for the V4+ ion.
