dc.descriptionProperties of octupole vibrations in rapidly rotating nuclei are discussed. Microscopic RPA calculations based on the cranked shell model are performed to investigate the interplay between rotation and vibrations. The ability of this model to describe the properties of collective vibrations built on the ground bands in rare-earth and actinide nuclei is demonstrated at high angular momentum. The octupole vibrational states in even-even superdeformed Hg nuclei are also predicted and compared with available experimental data. A new interpretation of the observed excited superdeformed bands invoking these octupole bands is proposed.
