dc.descriptionThe current status of numerical simulations of the formation of galaxies is reviewed. Success and failure of modeling galaxies at low and high redshift is demonstrated using a variety of examples, such as the Tully-Fisher relation, the appearance of high-redshift galaxies and the kinematics of damped Lya systems. The relationship between the clustering properties of high-z galaxies and the present generation of galaxies is emphasized.
