dc.descriptionThe parameter-space orbifold construction of open and unoriented toroidal and (target-space) orbifold compactifications is briefly reviewed, with emphasis on the underlying geometrical framework. A class of chiral four-dimensional type-I vacua with three generations is also discussed.
