dc.descriptionThe effect of the strand longitudinal thermal conduction carried mainly by the stabilizing copper on the take-off (quench) behaviour of cable-in-conduit supercondutors is investigated theoretically and numerically. An equal area criterion type of condition is found for the thermal equilibrium of the conductor. It is shown that the thermal conduction effect can be quantified in terms of an effective, enhanced heat-exchange coefficient.
