| dc.description | A model is proposed to minimize the total volume of the main distribution networks of fluids in organs such as the kidney and the lung. A consequence of the minimization analysis is that the optimal overall form of the organs is a modified ellipsoid. The variational procedure implementing this minimization is similar to the traditional isoperimetric theorems of geometry. | |
