dc.descriptionI discuss galaxy cluster surveys based on the Sunyaev--Zel'dovich effect and their relevance for cosmological studies. The unique aspects of cluster selection by this method are emphasized and certain issues of surveying are addressed. Finally, I briefly present prospects for upcoming surveys.
