We present the definitions of the age of the universe and of the luminosity distance in the context of this approach. A possible explanation of the recent data from distant supernovae Ia without a cosmological constant is presented.9 pages revtex, 1 figure, Contribution to the Proceedings of the workshop "Quark Matter in Astro- and Particle Physics", Rostock, Nov 27 - 29, 2000, Eds: D.
